Off to Italy? Don’t even think of ordering beer with dinner. In fact, the next time you set off for an international adventure anywhere, you might want to brush up on the local drinking customs to avoid offending someone—or even bringing a lifelong curse upon yourself.

Apparently, the world is full of superstitious rituals around alcohol consumption. In Spain, for example, cheersing with a glass of water will earn you seven years of bad sex. And in Hungary, you should avoid clinking glasses entirely, due to the way some Austrians celebrated the execution of a group of Hungarian revolutionaries in 1848.
