Rarely is there a dull moment on Russian state television, and the latest bluster from the Kremlin's media spokespersons is certainly no exception.

Russian forces have suffered tremendous losses in President Vladimir Putin's genocidal "special military operation" in Ukraine. And despite modest gains now being made in the separatist-controlled Eastern regions of Donbas and Luhansk, retired four-star United States Army General Barry McCaffrey pointed out on MSNBC on Wednesday that Moscow no longer has the conventional capacity to expand its efforts beyond Ukraine's borders.

It also bears noting that historically, Russian military campaigns have followed a pattern of early failures proceeded by regrouping and eventual advancement.

Perhaps that context is why Putin's propagandists are confident in claiming that World War III with the United States and its North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies has "already started," which they believe that Russia can win.

This was not the first time that such rhetoric has been blasted on Russian airwaves, which are tightly controlled by the Kremlin.

“I have some unpleasant news... Even though we are methodically destroying the weapons that are being delivered [to Ukraine], but the quantities in which the United States are sending them force us to come up with some global conclusions," 60 Minutes host Olga Skabeeva proclaimed this week. "Perhaps it’s time to acknowledge that maybe Russia’s special operation in Ukraine has come to an end, in a sense that a real war had started: WWIII. We’re forced to conduct the demilitarization not only of Ukraine, but of the entire NATO alliance.

Vladimir Avatkov, from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, agreed and expanded on Skabeeva's prophecy.

“You mentioned WWIII and the way Americans and Poles are acting on the territory of Ukraine—indeed, we need to remember the words of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who said that anyone who tries to interfere in the special military operation will pay a heavy price," he said.

Skabeeva interjected to say that "we never forget about these words of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, but a great number of people are already standing in line, trying to interfere in Russia’s special operation on the territory of Ukraine. Turns out, we have to act—but we’re yet to figure out how we can act without conducting a nuclear strike.”

The panelists' conversation then turned to accuse NATO member-state Poland, of all places, of scheming to mount a counterattack on Russia.

“If Poland starts any intervention... its current borders will be worthless," Russian State Duma lawmaker Oleg Matveychev said.

But Skabeeva disagreed, stressing that she “wasn’t talking just about Poland, but mainly about Great Britain and the United States... they’re all lined up.”

Avatkov added that there is "no need to rush, there is a line. Everything in its time!”
