Paul Krugman: 'Fox News isn't stupid. It thinks its viewers are stupid'
The United States homicide rate has reached an unprecedented 100-year record high, and while many news outlets have shed light on the disturbing statistic, New York Times opinion columnist Paul Krugman is exposing the real problem with Fox News' reporting of it.
On Wednesday, October 6, Krugman took to Twitter with his take on Fox News' presentation of those statistics. Fox News noted that the homicide rate spiked by a whopping 30% from 2019 to 2020. While the statistic is based on accurate data, Krugman pointed out that Fox News left out one glaring detail: the murder rate spiked during former President Donald Trump's time in office, long before President Joe Biden took office.
Krugman tweeted, "To be clear: Fox News isn't stupid. It thinks its viewers are stupid — that they won't notice that Trump was president in 2020, that they'll blame Biden for bad things that happened *before he took office* And Fox News is probably right."

Back in September, former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany tweeted an infographic featuring the same statistic as she took aim at President Biden for the disturbingly high murder rate. However, she later deleted her tweet.
