‘Trump is rampaging around like a madman’ — but Dems have a secret weapon: Washington Post columnist
President Donald Trump has been on his worst behavior, one Washington Post columnist noted — and the ball is now in the Democrats’ court.
“There’s a deep disconnect, or even a pathology of sorts, festering at the core of the Trump administration’s response to the humanitarian crisis at the southern border,” Plum Line columnist Greg Sargent wrote Wednesday.
As Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen pitches a congressional fix to the so-called “border crisis,” Trump “is rampaging around like a madman, threatening or putting in place all kinds of unhinged responses, through unilateral action, that are utterly disconnected from the realities of the actual crisis,”
It’s “utter lunacy,” the columnist noted, that the president is threatening to shut down the entire US border with Mexico to solve a “crisis” — and Democrats may soon force the GOP’s to put their money where their mouth is.
“House Democratic leaders are considering trying to force Republicans to vote on whether they support Trump’s threat to close down the border,” a senior Democratic aide told Sargent.
His source confirmed what Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) told Politico: that Republicans will have to vote as to whether Trump’s threat to shut down the border is “in the economic interest of the United States.”
