Here are 5 new ridiculous lies from Trump's disastrous interview with the Daily Caller

President Donald Trump and his allies are diligently working to spread doubt about the election recount in Florida, where a series of errors and mishaps in Broward county have thrown the vote count into question. The state is currently working through a recount, though Trump and others have called for the elections to simply be handed to the Republicans.

In a new interview with a conservative outlet, The Daily Caller, Trump continued to spread falsehoods and lies about the election and about the prevalence of voter fraud. He has particularly animosity for Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes, who is facing criticism across the board for mismanaging the vote.

Here are five of Trump's lies and falsehoods from the new interview:

1. “When they call this woman incompetent, they’re wrong,” Trump told the Daily Caller, referring to Snipes. “She’s very competent but in a bad way.”

Trump is essentially accusing Snipes of botching the vote counting in a way that helps Democrats — however, there is no evidence of this. If it were true, why would the election have been in doubt? If she were really a "competent" vote rigger, the election would already be decided in favor of the Democrats.

Further, it seems one of the county's biggest errors hurt Democrats in a serious way. Poor ballot design made it easy for voters to miss the section of the ballot where they choose the next senator. In this extremely Democratic district, an abnormal portion of voters may have completely neglected to vote for Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson for precisely this reason — which may have cost him the election. This completely undermines Trump's claim that Snipes was competently trying to throw the election to Democrats.

There have been other serious errors reported, including the fact that 20 votes with mismatched signatures were included in a batch of other legitimate ballots, and they cannot now be identified. This is a big mistake, but it's unlikely to affect the final tally of the vote, and mismatched signatures are not clear proof of illegal voting or actual fraud. It's also hardly a sign that Snipes is corruptly trying to pack the ballot boxes for the Democrats.

2. “The Republicans don’t win and that’s because of potentially illegal votes.”

It shouldn't even need to be said, but Republicans lose all the time because they didn't win enough legitimate votes. No one has ever demonstrated that illegal voting cost a Republican an election.

3. “When people get in line that have absolutely no right to vote and they go around in circles. Sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again. Nobody takes anything. It’s really a disgrace what’s going on.”

There's absolutely no evidence that this happened. The Daily Caller didn't press him on how he supposedly knows this fact or inform its readers that there's no reason to think it's true.

4. “If you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID.”

You do not need a voter ID to buy cereal.

5. “They try to shame everybody by calling them racist, or calling them something, anything they can think of, when you say you want voter ID. But voter ID is a very important thing."

Trump and other Republicans never address the fact that ID requirements have been shown to make voting harder for many, many more legitimate voters than the miniscule number of incidents of actual voter fraud that it could conceivably prevent. It is not, in any sense, an important measure. But Republicans keep pushing the idea anyway because they believe it will let them suppress Democratic votes.
