Salt Lake Paper Owned by US Russian Ambassador Jon Huntsman's Family Urges Him to Resign: 'No Other Reasonable Course of Action'

A stunning op-ed in U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman's paper the Salt Lake Tribune openly called for Huntsman to resign in a rebuke to President Donald Trump.

The Tribune president is Hunstman's brother, Paul Huntsman.

"Ambassador Huntsman, you work for a pawn, not a president. It’s time to come home," columnist Robert Gherke wrote. "There is no other reasonable course of action to take after Monday’s disgraceful joint news conference with President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin."

Gherke explained that Utahns were "stunned" when Hunstman accepted the job in the first place but understood the rationale.

He suggested that remaining in the Trump administration after the disastrous Putin press conference would not be an act in the service of this country.

"[T]he best way now to serve your country is not by holding on to some title and being the emissary of a president who doesn’t share your values, or American values, for that matter," Gherke explained.

"This has to be the last straw," the op-ed continued. "To remain silent and continue to serve this president would be complicity in the undoing of our nation and its status as a world leader."

"Come home, Mr. Huntsman," Gherke concluded. "Your country needs you."
