'A Shame and a Disgrace': Former Prosecutor Slams Giuliani's Outrageous Claim that Mueller's Team Will 'Frame' Trump
President Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani claimed on Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller is trying to "frame" the president — but a former colleague of Giuliani demolished the baseless assertion Wednesday night on MSNBC.
Giuliani implied that the fact that some of the people Mueller has hired are Democrats suggests that they are out to get to the president, even though Mueller himself is a Republican.
"The outrage is that he and I served in the Southern District of New York," said John Flannery on "The Beat" with host Ari Melber. "We were Republicans and Democrats appointed by a Republican U.S. Attorney during the Nixon administration. And we prosecuted Democrats and Republicans. The separation of your choice of how you vote is very separate from the professional responsibility to choose to go after one person or another for misconduct they actually do."
He continued: "I think that what Rudy has done is a shame and a disgrace as a former U.S. attorney, and as a former justice official, he knows better, and it's an outright lie."
"You think he's out of line beyond what is zealous advocacy for his client?" Melber asked.
"Yes, I think it's outrageous," Flannery said. "I think it's absolutely outrageous that he as an officer of the court would be putting down an entire system based on the exercise of an individual's right to choose to elect one person or another separate and apart from your professional job."
