Hoax SWAT Call Sends Police to the Home of Parkland Survivor David Hogg

A fake emergency call sent police to the home of Parkland survivor David Hogg in an apparent “swatting” prank, ABC 10 reports.

Authorities converged on the Hogg’s family home Tuesday morning after the Broward Sheriff's Office received a call about a hostage situation in the affluent neighborhood. Upon further investigation, Coral Springs Fire Rescue determined the call was fake.

As ABC 10 reports, Hogg was not home at the time—he and his mother are visiting Washington, D.C., where Hogg will accept the RFK Human Rights award.

Hogg has become a vocal gun control advocate since February 14, when a gunman killed 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. His advocacy has drawn the ire of some on the right, who’ve targeted the teen with virulent threats—including a promise to “ram a hot poker up David Hogg's ass tomorrow.”

Swatting is a form of harassment that tricks emergency services to descend upon a person’s address. The Notre Dame Law Review has called swatting “a domestic terrorism threat.”
