Fox News' Shep Smith Goes on Epic Rant After Huckabee Sanders Refuses to Admit She Mislead Reporters

Fox News host Shep Smith on Monday unloaded on Donald Trump’s administration after White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to admit she lied when she claimed the president did not dictate a misleading statement about a campaign-era meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and agents of the Russian government,

Sanders repeatedly deflected when pressed about her August 2017 claim, during which she declared Trump “certainly didn’t dictate” his son’s statement to the New York Times (which was later amended). According to a memo sent from Trump’s outside legal counsel to special counsel Robert Mueller, Trump is now acknowledging he told his son what to say.

"It's one of those days when you just don't know what to do because we have two things put out as truth, and they're opposites,” Smith said, recounting the day's news. “And as a result of the fact they're opposites, one of them is untrue."

“The president’s lawyers versus the president’s press secretary,” Smith continued. “The president’s lawyers have contradicted the White House about whether President Trump indeed dictated his oldest son’s statements about the Trump Tower meeting with Russians offering dirt on Hillary Clinton.”

“What difference does it really make what happened way back in the day?” Smith asked. “It makes a lot of difference.”

“This isn’t about politics at all,” the host continued. “… We want to report without fear or favor and hold truth to power, no matter who it is that’s in power. And when you get a competing set of facts, one of them completely untrue, and no way to get through it, from the highest elected authority in the land, from those who work for us, it’s very frustrating for for journalists.”

“It’s not partisan, this is about facts,” he added. “And knowing that someone is telling the opposite of that.”
