Former Trump Aide Says Mueller Is 'Focused' On Collusion and Knows 'More about the Trump Campaign Than Anyone'
After interviewing with special counsel Robert Mueller's team, President Donald Trump's former campaign aide Michael Caputo told CNN that the investigation is still focused on Russia and is much more targeted than the congressional probes.
“It’s clear they are still really focused on Russia collusion," Caputo told CNN's Manu Raju of Mueller's team. "They know more about the Trump campaign than anyone who ever worked there."
Raju said Caputo would not be more specific, but he added: ”The Senate and the House are net fishing,”
He continued: “The special counsel is spearfishing. They know what they are aiming at and are deadly accurate.”
The comments confirm that Mueller is still very much interested in whether and to what extent the Trump campaign cooperated with Russian efforts to intervene in the 2016 election. Some observers have assumed that such questions had been largely subsumed by the probe into Trump's potential obstruction of justice by working to undermine the Russia investigation.
But these comments support what was implied by a list a questions Mueller reportedly has for Trump that was published by the New York Times this week: The Trump campaign may have colluded with the Kremlin in an effort to win the election, and it may have broken the law in doing so.
