Trump Tweeted a Bunch of Old Photos to Try to Prove His Nonexistent Wall Is Being Built

News & Politics

President Donald Trump, who ran for president on a pledge that Mexico would pay for his border wall, was busted on Wednesday claiming that work had begun on his wall.

“Great briefing this afternoon on the start of our Southern Border WALL!” Trump tweeted.

As Buzzfeed fact-checked, this was not actually the start of Trump’s wall, but a repair effort that was started back in 2009 to fix a portion of existing fence that was built in the 1990s.

“Although the existing wall has proven effective at deterring unlawful cross border activity, smuggling organizations damaged and breached this outdated version of a border wall several hundred times during the last two years,” CBP saidwhen announcing the project.

As yet, construction has not yet started on Trump’s border wall.

And to-date, Mexico has been adamant that they will not be paying for his wall.
