Bannon Will Cooperate with Mueller Subpoena After Refusing to Answer House Intel Committee Questions: Report
Former chief White House strategist Steve Bannon will not stonewall special counsel Robert Mueller like he did the House Intelligence Committee, the Daily Beast reports.
“Mueller will hear everything Bannon has to say,” that person told the Beast.
Bannon appeared before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday and refused to answer questions about Donald Trump’s administration or the presidential transition, according to House committee members who attended that hearing. Bannon’s refusal to answer committee questions followed a subpoena issued by chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) in the middle of Bannon’s testimony.
Rep. Adam Schiff told reporters Tuesday the former chief White House strategist “quickly informed through his counsel the committee he was not going to answer questions that pertained to meetings, conversations, events, etc., that took place either during the transition or while he was part of the administration.”
“We would later learn that would be extended to even after he left the White House,” Schiff added.
“This is the broadest effort to effectively gag a witness we have seen,” Schiff told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.
Bannon was subpoenaed Mueller last week, the New York Times reports.
