Stephen Curry Says It Should Be ‘Beneath’ the President to Attack Athletes - as DC Mayor Invites Warriors to Town

Golden State Warriors player Stephen Curry fired back at President Donald Trump on Saturday, saying it should be beneath the office of the presidency to pick personal fights with American athletes.

Also on Saturday, Washington, D.C.’s mayor invited Curry’s team to her city, said The Hill.

Curry—who President Donald Trump attacked for saying he wasn’t comfortable attending a White House event in the wake of Trump’s comments on Friday night attacking athletes who protest the U.S. national anthem—said, “I don’t know why he feels the need to target certain individuals rather than others.”

“I have an idea of why, but, it’s just kind of beneath, I think, a leader of a country to go that route. It’s not what leaders do,” Curry added.

After the president rescinded his invitation to the Warriors to come to the White House, Washington’s Mayor Muriel Bowser extended a welcome to the team, saying in a statement, “While you’re here, Warriors, we are happy to identify ways for you to celebrate equality, diversity, and inclusion — what we call DC values.”

She continued, “And if anyone ever tells you that you cannot come to DC, tell them Mayor Bowser invited you.”
