Here Are 8 Dire Warnings Proving ‘Nowhere Will Be Safe’ Once Irma Makes Landfall in South Florida

Dire warnings increased on the awesome scale and power of Hurricane Irma as south Florida evacuated.

“This is as real as it gets,” the National Weather Service tweeted — in all caps. “Nowhere in the Keys will be safe.”

The Atlantic basin generated more Accumulated Cyclone Energy on Friday than any other day on record, as Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Jose maintained Category 4 status.

Hurricane force winds and heavy rainfall are forecast across the entire Florida peninsula. After following the spine of the peninsula, Irma is projected to continue heading North-Northwest through Georgia, Alabama, and into Tennessee.
