Lawrence O'Donnell: Trump Should Watch His Back Around Mike Pence
A New York Times story suggests a "shadow campaign" is underway to elect Mike Pence president in 2020. Trump has spent days hammering the publication on Twitter, and Vice President Pence forcefully tried to shut down the conjecture.
But MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell isn't buying the vice president's theatrical outrage.
According to O'Donnell, Pence has an unusual window into the "laziness" of the Trump presidency and is in a unique position to succeed the unpopular president.
"He sees [Trump's] ignorance up close," O'Donnell said of the VP. "Mike Pence knows he may be a plea bargain away from the presidency [...] Of course Mike Pence is running for president!"
O'Donnell believes Trump could either resign or be impeached.
Outside of the Trump administration, O'Donnell suggested Gov. John Kasich of Ohio stands a strong chance against the president should he manage to stay in office for his full term. Kasich ran in the 2016 Republican primary before exiting the race after Trump's nomination became a foregone conclusion.
Either way, the MSNBC host clearly doesn't think Trump's getting a second term. "No one in America has ever seen a president who cares less about doing the work of the presidency," O'Donnell said.
