'You Lie!': Obama-Heckling Congressman Gets a Taste of His Own Medicine at Town Hall

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) is perhaps best known for shouting "you lie!" at then-President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress in 2009. It's a phrase that still haunts him almost a decade later, as proven by town hall attendees in his district late Monday.

“I’ve supported the local solicitor here, and the solicitor in Lexington on all efforts to make sure that violence against women is fully enforced,” Wilson told a roomful of constituents.

“You lie! You lie!” chanted hundreds in response.

This opposition stems from his vote against the 2013 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Many attendees of the meeting held at Aiken Technical College had questions concerning Obamacare and the War In Syria. Wilson refused to answer virtually all of them.

"[He] was pretty evasive on a whole bunch of issues, especially with healthcare," said one attendee, William Leaphart, a Graniteville, South Carolina resident. "He just gave a whole bunch of different talking points but nothing really new about solutions for people in the second Congressional District."

Wilson is supportive of Trump's airstrike last week, despite criticizing Obama's potential action in Syria as a "distraction" from Benghazi. 

“I would have supported the prior president if he had acted, but he didn’t," Wilson now claims. "Where chemical weapons are used, there should be immediate action. Because if we don’t, sadly it’s an opportunity for chemical weapons to be used around the world and, we know, ultimately, within the United States."
