Women's Rights Are Ivanka's Side Piece: Trump's Daughter Has Secret Meeting With Planned Parenthood
Ivanka Trump has played a very active and visible role in the White House since her father took office. One of her pillars, at least according to her, is championing women’s issues. But her positions haven’t always been transparent, especially considering that her father’s policies and the women she says she supports have frequently been at odds.
No case exemplifies this divide more than the persistent Republican demands to defund Planned Parenthood. Ivanka Trump has remained completely silent on this issue — or so we thought. The first daughter had a private meeting with the health care organization this week.
Following her father’s inauguration, Ivanka Trump requested an interview with Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood and a vocal Hillary Clinton supporter throughout the election.
Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said of the exchange:
“The purpose of the meeting, from Cecile’s point of view, was to make sure that Ivanka fully understood what Planned Parenthood does, how it is funded and why it would be a terrible idea for Planned Parenthood to be removed from being able to see Medicaid patients.”
If Ivanka Trump is such an advocate for women’s issues, why was her request and meeting kept private? Perhaps it has to do with being the good daughter she is by maintaining her public support of President Trump.
The shadiness of it all is too much to handle. Ivanka Trump is essentially treating women’s rights as a side piece, hitting Planned Parenthood with the dreaded “you up?” text at 3 a.m.
