Stephen Colbert Goes Nuclear on Republicans' Plot to Confirm Neil Gorsuch
Senate Democrats announced Monday that they have enough votes needed to filibuster President Trump's Supreme Court pick Neil Gorsuch. Stephen Colbert believes they're doomed all the same.
"It's a fight they're going to lose," Colbert opened. "But those are the kinds of fights Democrats love."
That's because Republicans are threatening to use the "nuclear option," he noted, "which would upset Donald Trump, because he wants to be the first to use the nuclear option, possibly against North Korea, maybe Jake Tapper."
Some, like Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), have argued that without knowing the extent of Trump's collusion with Russia, Gorsuch should not be confirmed.
The nuclear option would lower the number of votes required to break a filibuster from 60 to 51.
