Don Lemon Demands On-Air Apology from Jeffrey Lord After Hideous Martin Luther King Jr. Analogy
Don Lemon's patience with Jeffrey Lord may have finally run out Thursday night. After the conservative commentator compared Donald Trump to Martin Luther King Jr. (he really did), the "CNN Tonight" host demanded he apologize to his viewers and the people of color with whom he works.
“Dr. King was marching for civil rights because people that looked like me were being beaten,” Symone Sanders told Lord. “Basic human rights were being denied to these people merely because of the color of the skin."
"You have three people you work with... three people of color," Lemon continued. "We are telling you that that comparison is insulting and you're ignoring it. Don't you think you should take that into consideration?"
After Lord continued to sidestep, Lemon grew exasperated.
"I want to hear [you apologize] now, to the coworkers, to the people of color you work with on this network every single day, who are offended by your remarks," he exclaimed. "You're not listening to us."
A defensive Lord called his co-hosts' behavior "immoral."
"We don't judge people by color in this country; that is racist," he cut in.
Sanders' rebuke was perfect: "Let me tell you something, Jeffrey," she began. "I don't have the luxury of saying 'I don't see color'... Regardless of how I see myself, I am a black woman, Don is a black man... You have the luxury of walking out of your house and just being an American."
