Colbert Goes to Town About Trump's Pathetically 'Lame' Inaugural Planning

Donald Trump's inauguration is shaping up to be one sad sack of a party. "It is still over a month until Trump's inauguration, when he will take the oath of office with one hand raised and the other hand on a stack of his own head shots," Stephen Colbert joked on Thursday night's "Late Show" before turning to the hilarity of Trump's team having trouble booking stars for the event.

When Anthony Scaramucci, a member of the inaugural committee, claimed Elton John would be performing on the mall, the British singer's publicist, Fran Curtis, quickly called out the lie.

“Incorrect. He will NOT be performing," Curtis said in an email.

"That's too bad," Colbert said in response. "I was really looking forward to Elton singing 'Hold me closer, tiny hand sir.'"

Trump has even "dangled ambassadorships" to those willing to lure celebrities in.

But as if the clear lack of A-listers wasn't bad enough, "not one D.C.-area marching band has applied to march in Trump's inaugural parade," Colbert pointed out.

"You know the party is lame when the band doesn't want to come... ask the chess team, maybe they'll go," he added.
