Winona Ryder Is the Face of the Netflix Price Hike (Video)
"Stranger Things" is the perfect show for "someone who doesn't like to spend that much time on the internet," like Winona Ryder, points out Jimmy Kimmel.
"I said, 'please call Winona Ryder and ask if she will be on our show,'" Kimmel told the actress, who is still overwhelmed with the popularity of the Netflix show, first released July 15. The webseries is set in 1983 and is an homage to the era.
But one of the stranger things that came with Ryder's comeback was an email that was also sent to every Netflix subscriber.
"The day that the show was coming out, I got an email from them saying that the price was going up to $12.99, and so there was an ad with my face, and it was like, 'but you have to get from $7.99 to...." Ryder told Kimmel when he asked if she watches Netflix.
"So you, in a way, are the face of the Netflix price hike," Kimmel told Ryder.
And maybe the next one as well. According to Forbes, "A new survey conducted by TiVo’s Digitalsmiths unit discovered that 21 percent of Netflix customers would be willing to pay at least $16 per month for the streaming service. According to Variety, the survey polled 3,114 adults in the United States and Canada. As of now, Netflix is the No. 1 streaming service in the world with upwards of 70 million total subscribers (a number that could grow significantly thanks to millennials)."
