We Have Some Really Important News About Cheese
Life is about the little things. Sunlight on morning dew. A dog wagging her tail. Pulling the recline lever on a La-Z-Boy. The sound of bubble wrap popping.
Cheese, the very essence of sublime. Enjoyed alone or atop, inside of, and around other food, this chewy manna from heaven is the friend you’re almost always happy to have at a party (in your mouth). According to Wikipedia, the very invention of cheese “predates recorded history.” In other words, eating cheese comes naturally to humans. It’s practically part of our DNA.
This Sunday, September 18, we honor this proud cultural tradition. How? By celebrating one of the finer incarnations of this yellowed treat and arguably one of the greatest culinary innovations in America: the cheeseburger. To mark the occasion of National Cheeseburger Day, leading purveyors of the raw product, Finlandia Cheese, conducted a national survey in collaboration with the survey firm Learndipity Data Insights, to illuminate our cheese-eating proclivities. You might say their findings are monum-emmental.
Two thousand Americans were asked how they enjoyed their cheese on a burger. Overall, folks from the Northeast are at the front of the queue for a quarter-pounder deluxe. Speaking of which, American cheese topped the list of options for preferred brands to be put in a bun. Cheddar followed closely in second place, taking the top spot for preference among West Coast burger munchers. And how about this for a hot take from the findings: “Men enjoy gouda twice as much as women do.”
