Walmart Workers Refuse to Make 'Blue Lives Matter' Cake
Last week, three Walmart workers in McDonough, Ga. decided "blue lives" didn't matter enough to write on a cake, when they openly refused to make a cake for a cop's retirement party. One of the three workers saidd the cake was "racist." Ultimately the manager completed the order, and then called to apologize to the family of the cop. Since the incident, many have called for the workers to be fired.
Taylor Wilkes, a family friend and local police officer, weighed in on the cake incident on Facebook on Friday.[facebook https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Ftaylor.wilkes.735%2Fposts%2F1839762022923775&width=500 expand=1]
Wilkes slammed Walmart for their “appalling” behavior.
“There is nothing racist about the symbolism behind the "thin blue line," yet people CHOOSE to make EVERYTHING about race... I'm so tired of it," ” Wilkes wrote. Wilkes also noted that while he appreciated the store's apology, he "will still not be shopping at Walmart due to the ‘quality’ of employees they hire."
Apparently, Walmart is listening, and not backing up the workers.
“Our goal is to always take care of customers. But sometimes we misstep," read Walmart's official statement regarding the incident.
