Sheriff Joe Arpaio Gives a Bizarre Answer for Why Trump Is Trailing in Red State Arizona
Unfortunately for Trump supporters, Hillary Clinton is leading in even some red states, including Arizona, home to one of Trump's biggest surrogates, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. But when asked to weigh in on The O'Reilly Factor last night, the surrogate admitted the Trump Train's only hope in the Grand Canyon State was the "silent majority" who don't engage in polls.
"Are you surprised that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are pretty much tied in Arizona?" Fox News host Bill O'Reilly asked Sheriff Joe.
"No . . . it was a liberal poll company out of Colorado. They're never right anyway," Arpaio shot back.
"But the Arizona Republic had the number," O'Reilly said. "That's not the first poll that came out . . .Arizona is what they call 'in play'... It didn't used to be in play, it used to be a reliably red state."
O'Reilly asked Arpaio why that has changed.
"It hasn't changed," Arpaio answered, still in denial. "There's a silent majority out there." Arpaio then rambled on about seeing four "professional people" who just happened to be likely Trump voters at a breakfast event he attended earlier that day.
"How big do you think he's going to win in Arizona," O'Reilly asked, playing along.
Arpaio couldn't answer that one either. But after being shown a clip in which Clinton showcases her immigration platform on Univision, Arpaio responded:
"Well, you know, we do have to have comprehensive illegal immigration, or immigration situations, you gotta look at the Congress and the President, I understand that's a very complex problem. But I'm still confused! I'm still gonna go back to the drugs!"
Yes, those were his exact words.
