Samantha Bee Gives Thumbs Up to Debate Moderator Lester Holt for Busting Trump With This One Super-Solid Fact-Check
Monday night's first presidential debate was a doozy. But for "Full Frontal" host Samantha Bee, there were two clear winners.
"Speaking of black people in uncomfortable situations, you may have noticed the very occasional presence of moderator and 'interruptee' Lester Holt," the "Full Frontal" host began. "Now to be fair it's a nearly impossible job even when one of the candidates isn't projectile lying in your face all night," Bee reminded the audience after teasing that they may have to do some of the fact-checking themselves.
"Now whether or not in a place like Chicago you do stop-and-frisk, which worked very well, Mayor Giuliani is here; it worked very well in New York, it brought the crime rate way down," Trump said when asked about race relations in America.
"Whoa there, Archie Bunker!" Bee exclaimed. "Lester can let a lot of things go, and he did, but not this."
"Stop-and-frisk was ruled unconstitutional in New York because it largely singled out black and Hispanic young men," Holt informed Trump.
"No, you're wrong," Trump insisted. "It went before a judge who was a very 'against police' judge..."
"Oh my god. What a 'good for against' answer," Bee said in response to Trump's inarticulate pomposity.
"Lester is not wrong," she continued.
"You forgot he lives in New York and he is tired of building stop-and-frisk time into his commute," Bee said. "That was a solid fact-check."
And while Holt presumably went out to "jam with his band," Trump tested out more of his "just gonna wing it" strategy, encouraged by his surrogates.
Unlike the Clinton campaign, Trump's team feared over-preparation and thought perhaps a life of reality TV may be enough for Trump to succeed on the debate stage.
"Woo! Disrespecting the voters is chill," Bee mocked. "Yay, ignorance."
And while Trump wrote off Clinton's concern as that of "some busy-body PTA overplanner, [he also] never considered that Clinton may be a Count of Monte Cristo overplanner," pointed out Bee.
"She spent months building an elaborate trap for Trump and he lumbered right into it," Bee said. "All [Clinton] had to do was step out of his way while he called a woman fat."
