This Might Be the Most Poignant Statement About the Orlando Massacre So Far

A red-eyed John Oliver hastily taped an opening to his show on Sunday night, expressing his sorrow and paying homage to the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando. "It's still early, and details are still emerging," he said. "But right now, this just hurts. And the worst thing is this pain is so familiar."

Somehow, this clever Brit, who seems to have a great affection for his adopted country, perfectly captured what's great about America.

"For the record, I will happily embrace a Latin night at a gay club at the theme park capital of the world as the ultimate symbol of what is truly wonderful about America," he said, before running footage of the hundreds of people lining up to donate blood as proof positive that good people greatly outnumber the ones who would do so much harm.
