Trump Says He Would Appoint Anti-Choice Justice to Supreme Court (Video)

Donald Trump attempted to further solidify his standing as a champion of the conservative anti-choice movement (despite extensive evidence to the contrary), telling Bill O’Reilly Tuesday he “will appoint judges that will be pro-life.”

Admitting that he previously “was, in a meek fashion, pro-choice,” Trump told O’Reilly he’s “become pro-life,” insisting he will protect the sanctity of life if elected president.

“I will protect it, and the biggest way you can protect it is through the Supreme Court, and putting people on the Court,” Trump said, adding, “actually the biggest way you can protect—I guess—is by electing me president.”

O’Reilly pressed Trump on whether he would specifically seek a Supreme Court justice who overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark case that invalidated many state and federal restrictions on abortion.

“Well, they’ll be pro-life and we’ll see about overturning,” Trump responded."I will appoint judges that will be pro-life.”

Despite the Supreme Court ruling, antichoice conservatives in many states have moved to restrict access to abortion through extensive physician and hospital requirements, gestational limits and the denial of public funding, among other tactics.

Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, attacked Trump’s promise Wednesday, saying in a statement, “Women can’t trust Donald Trump.”

“Donald Trump goes on sexist rants that demean and disrespect women, and backs it up with a policy agenda that is dangerous and ignores the very real issues women face in this country,” Lagoons continued. “There is so much at stake for women and their access to reproductive health and rights in this election, and all Trump is doing is promising to take us backwards.”
