Samantha Bee Takes on Trump-Loving Evangelicals and the Hypocritical Religious Right
Last night, Full Frontal's Samantha Bee put evangelical support of Donald Trump under scrutiny when Ted Cruz seemed a much more likely candidate to have garnered their vote.
“Seriously, what is going on?” Bee asked, befuddled. “Are evangelicals that eager to get the apocalypse going? They had the chance to back someone who was grown in a vat to be the perfect evangelical candidate.”
But they turned down that opportunity, instead opting for a “thrice-married, foul-mouthed tit judge who likes Planned Parenthood and thinks Corinthians is a type of car upholstery.”
From there, Bee takes us on a journey to understand the origins of the new religious right, their abstention from politics and their reemergence, rooted in “good old white nativism and anti-government anger when the IRS challenged evangelicals’ right to go to school without black people.”
