Rubio Takes the Republican Primary to the Locker Room With Penis Taunt

The Republican presidential primary descended to middle school locker room taunting over the weekend, and that’s no exaggeration. Donald Trump has been bad enough throughout the campaign—and remained appalling on every level over the weekend, refusing to condemn white supremacists like David Duke and rolling out the endorsement of racist Alabama Sen. Jefferson Beauregard Sessions—but now he’s not alone in the locker room. Marco Rubio is there now, too, and he brought penis jokes.

On Friday, Rubio had attempted to rebut Trump’s mockery of Rubio’s sweating problems by suggesting that Trump wet his pants during Thursday night’s debate. On Sunday, Rubio took on the sweating issue by saying that Trump “doesn't sweat cause his pores are clogged from the spray tan that he uses,” and then he went here:

"He's like 6'2'' which is why I don't understand why his hands are the size of someone who is 5'2". Have you seen his hands?" Rubio said during a rally in Roanoke, Virgina. "You know what they say about men with small hands? You can't trust them. You can't trust them."

Yes, Marco, that’s just what they say about men with small hands. That wasn’t a dick joke at all, it was an attack on Trump’s trustworthiness! Or it was a dick joke with a paper-thin cover. One of those. So this is where the Republican primary stands. Marco Rubio, establishment boy wonder, is trying to catch bully supreme Donald Trump with taunts about spray tans and penis size. Trump is responding by linking Rubio’s attacks to the Republican establishment and in traditional Trump fashion: With insults, dubbing Rubio “Little Rubio” and “Little Marco” and so on.

And then there’s the Republican establishment, which is finally confronting the reality that Donald Trump might be the party’s presidential nominee, and finding it an uncomfortable reality to deal with.

“It’s scary,” South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who has endorsed Rubio, said on ABC’s “This Week.” She added: “I think what he’ll do to the Republican Party is really make us question who we are and what we’re about. And that’s something we don’t want to see happen.”

Yeah, well, sorry not sorry. You guys created this through years of dog whistling, racist and otherwise, working to divide and conquer for the benefit of the wealthiest. Donald Trump’s rise is terrible for the country, but the Republican Party created this monster and should damn well suffer even more than the rest of us for it.
