Eric Holder Explains Why Trump's Favorite Slogan Doesn't Make Any Sense to America's Minorities

Eric Holder served as Attorney General of the United States from 2009 to 2015, and was succeeded by Loretta Lynch on April 27, 2015. Holder has a very strong legacy on civil rights and since his resignation has focused on investigating intermediate size police departments. But he managed to take some time out of his busy schedule to join Late Night With Seth Meyers to discuss the offensiveness behind Donald Trump's infamous slogan.

"We have someone running for president right now that keeps talking about making America great again and talking about this bygone era. Is it worrisome to you that someone is talking about this America of the past that predates all these improvements in civil rights that have brought America to where it is today?" Meyers asked Eric Holder on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Holder was quick to respond. “America is great, has been great and will be great. We don’t want to go back to the past in Donald Trump’s mind. That America [only] existed for a select number of people, but if you were a person of color, if you were gay, the America of 40 and 50 years ago was not the most hospitable place. We want to stay where we are, build from the progress we have made and and make sure that the America of the 21st century is better than the ones in the past."
