Jeb Bush Admits He Was Rooting for Peyton Manning Just Because He Gave Him Money

Jeb! Bush, the legacy candidate who still seems totally baffled by how this whole thing is shaking out, knows he needs all the support he can get. So when a gift horse gives him a campaign contribution, he’s going to make sure to root for that gift horse when it plays in the Super Bowl. And he hopes that if you live in South Carolina, you won’t hold it against him.

“I know that y’all probably maybe had some leanings toward Carolina,” Bush said, speaking to a room of supporters in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, yesterday. “I was for Denver, not because of the Broncos, but because Peyton Manning wrote me a check.”

Manning, a frequent Republican contributor, gave the Bush campaign $2,700 last year, as much as any individual is allowed to give. Bush later said “Peyton Manning in the NFL is the adult in the room,” which I guess is a new way of describing people who leave the field pouting after they lose a game.

Anyway, the video is below. You’ll note that the audience applauds Bush, even without being asked to “please clap.”
