Florida Mayor Hilariously Spoofs Trump by Barring Him From Town

Residents of St. Petersburg, Florida, are among the luckiest people in the country right now, following news that the city’s mayor has banned Donald Trump from entering the town.

The message came in the form of a satirical tweet from Mayor Rick Kreisman, who wrote that he is “hereby barring Donald Trump from entering St. Petersburg until we fully understand the dangerous threat posed by all Trumps.” The tweet, which was posted yesterday afternoon, currently has nearly 10,000 likes and has been retweeted more than 8,600 times.

Kreisman’s takedown borrows language from a press release from the billionaire’s campaign stating, “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.”

While the mayor’s message was, at least in part, delivered in jest, a online petition to ban Trump from the UK isn’t joking around. Launched by Scotland’s Suzanne Kelly, who’s spoken out against Trump before, the petition argues that the billionaire should be kept out due to his endless “hate speech.” Addicting Info offers a look at the language from the petition, which is currently offline:

The signatories believe Donald J. Trump should be banned from UK entry for his continued, unrepentant hate speech and unacceptable behaviour. His unacceptable behaviour is well documented, and we feel it foments racial, religious and nationalistic intolerance which should not be welcome in the UK.

The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. This same principle should apply to Donald J Trump. We cannot see how the United Kingdom can condone his entry to the country when many people have been barred for less.

The latest belligerence from Trump is in keeping with the rest of his campaign, which has been built on playing to the racism and xenophobia that pervades his base. While previous hateful statements have earned him flak from many quarters, his supporters seem to swell in number with every slur he utters.

Interestingly, Business Insider notes that two recent Iowa polls show markedly different tallies for Trump. The first shows him in the lead with 33 percent, far outpacing his closest rival Ted Cruz at just 13 percent. But a second poll has Cruz at 24 percent and Trump in second place at 19 percent.
