WATCH: Seth Meyers Politely Corrects Sarah Palin's Ignorance on Refugees
The fact that Sarah Palin is uninformed about a political issue isn't exactly newsworthy. But her particular brand of meanspirited ignorance so perfectly represents the stupidity of the GOP panic over refugees that her appearance on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" was illuminating.
“There is no way to filter out those who want to try and do this country harm with the process that we see in place today,” Palin said, wrongly. "They don't have that at the top. They don't have [a vetting process] at the federal level."
"But they do," Meyers gently explained. "It is an 18- to 24-month process. Starts at the UN and goes through multiple state agencies here in the U.S. Is it maybe that, at the core, there's just a lack of trust of the federal government?"
Palin basically conceded this point, but nevertheless insisted to Meyers that he shouldn't trust the federal government on this issue.
And that, of course, is what this is really about: mindless distrust of the president combined with anti-Muslim sentiment.
