WATCH: Bill Maher to Kim Davis: 'You Are Sharia Law'

On his Real Time show Friday night, host Bill Maher explained that there was no difference between embattled Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis and Muslims who practice Sharia law.

“If you say, as Kim Davis and her ilk, and Ted Cruz and all those people say that actually ‘I can ignore the rule of man because the rule book of God said’ —  then you are Iran. Then you are Saudi Arabia. Then you are Sharia law,” said Maher.

Kim Davis made worldwide headlines after she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. She was found in contempt of court and has become a symbol of resistance to many religious conservatives. After the Supreme Court refused to grant her stay request Davis said, "I never imagined a day like this would come, where I would be asked to violate a central teaching of Scripture and of Jesus himself regarding marriage."
