Hilarious Key & Peele Sketch Shows What It Would Be Like if Teachers Were Treated Like Star Athletes (VIDEO)
Monday night's Key and Peele sketch "Teacher Center" masterfully highlighted the inconsistencies in America's economic priorities. In the bit, a typical Sports Center broadcast replaces star athletes with run-of-the-mill public high school teachers.
There's a cliche NFL-like "draft" sequence where Mike Yoast -- a nerdy guy whose father was only a "humble NFL player" -- is the number one draft pick out of Tulsa Teachers college.
"Just like that," Key says upon Yoast's selection by Central Rapids High School, "You're a millionaire."
While the singling out of athletes is problematic (why not sports teams owners who do far less work for far more money?) the use of Sports Center to illustrate how under appreciated teachers are and how grossly overvalued sports is, is really well done. Like a lot of Key and Peele sketches, the bit is taken to the next level with top-notch production values and dead-on comedic timing.
If you're a teacher, or know anyone who is, you'll appreciate the clever turning of tables.
