UPDATE: Authorities Capture South Carolina Shooting Suspect Dylann Roof

UPDATE: Authorities have captured Dylann Roof, the terror suspect in the shooting at an historic black church in South Carolina. Roof allegedly fatally shot nine people at Emanuel AME church. According to reports, Roof was found in Shelby, North Carolina.

FBI authorities have identified 21-year-old Roof as the alleged gunman in the mass shooting at a South Carolina church that left nine people dead. According to a Reuters report, Roof’s uncle, Carlson Cowles, alerted police to his nephew’s identity after seeing his photo released by police.

Cowles told Reuters that Roof's father had recently purchased a .45 caliber gun for his son.

Roof, of Columbia, South Carolina, remains at large. The Post and Courier tweeted photos of the alleged shooter taken from his Facebook page. Twitter user @ZeddRebel noted that one picture depicts the suspect wearing a “jacket [with] flags from Rhodesia [eds. note: now Zimbabwe] & Apartheid South Africa.”

The Charleston police department is working with the FBI on locating Roof, who remains at large. The shooting has been designated as a hate crime.
