See How America's Opinions Changed on Six Hot-Button Social Issues

With the landmark Supreme Court ruling last week, a country that just 11 years ago was contemplating a constitutional ban on marriage equality instead has that right nationwide.

Bloomberg has put together some graphics showing how America has changed on six issues: interracial marriage, prohibition, women's suffrage, abortion, same-sex marriage, and recreational marijuana. On these six issues, a few states moved first, and the rest of the country shortly followed. Unfortunately, Bloomberg didn't include in its public opinion tracking the issues that directly challenge the economic and power system of the US -- war, empire, corporate power, and divisions of wealth.

Looking at marijuana prohibition in particular, Bloomberg notes, “If the pattern holds, the marijuana legalization movement may take far less time than other issues to gain widespread acceptance. Though the pattern of social change may have remained largely the same over the years, change is happening faster now.”
