Sorry, Jeb Bush - A Gay Couple Has Bought

Way to go—C.J. and Charlie! Talk about upending presidential politics.

This self-described “bear couple from Portland, Oregon,” C.J. Phillips and Charlie Rainwater, own one of the hottest political URLs of 2016:

They say that they are not going to sell to to the GOP contender, but use it to educate the public about LBGT issues.

“We’re a couple of high tech bears who both work in the microprocessor design industry, yes you could say we’re just a couple of nerds,” they say on their website. But, as Phillips told, they have a few things to say about LGBT rights.

“Early tentative plans were to essentially blog about how we felt about various legislation happening nationally and worldwide,” he said, saying they bought the URL in 2008. “For example, at the time Texas legislature was either planning to pass or had already passed a bill that made the legal documents created by any couple in a relationship that mimicked marriage null and void. We didn’t see LGBT equality getting any better, and we felt said rights would more than likely still be in the spotlight in the run up for the next several election cycles. Jeb’s name was already being bandied about in the news as a potential presidential candidate, and we felt sure he’d be running in a future election.”

Jeb Bush stridently opposed same-sex marriage and other equality issues early in his career even though he recently has tried to moderate that tone, numerous national media outlets have noted.

Phillips said that they have received multiple offers to sell the URL—but, so far, haven’t.

“We’ve had a couple of offers. One person asked flat-out why a gay couple would have a candidate centric domain,” he told BusinessInsider. “The latest was someone saying they wanted to buy the domain as a birthday present for a friend, awwww!”
