VIDEO: New York City Police Beat Man Bloody After He Allegedly Jumps a Turnstile
A shocking video of a New York City police officer beating a young man bloody after he resisted arrrest has emerged. The video shows a man who has been identified as Donovan Lawson, 20, who allegedly jumped a subway turnstile, get hit over the head with a nightstick and thrown around while bleeding profusely. Bystanders can be heard yelling, "What are you doing?" repeatedly to the cop, and screaming when Lawson is struck on the head.
The man who captured the incident reported that police pepper-sprayed Lawson earlier, an allegation the NYPD has confirmed.
According to the police sources, Lawson has no prior arrests, but now faces charges of fare beating, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and disrupting government administration.
Lawson was taken to the hospital after the incident, as was the police officer who was treated for hand and wrist injuries.
Over the summer, the NYPD announced it would require training on the use of force, following the death of a Staten Island father who had been placed in a chokehold.
