RedState Editor: ‘I’d Have Shot Mike Brown Right In His Face’
A contributing editor for the conservative news website RedState caused an uproar on social media the day before Thanksgiving when he posted an inflammatory tweet expressing support for Darren Wilson, the white police officer who a grand jury recently declined to indict for the shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown.
“I’d have shot Mike Brown right in the face,” tweeted Red State editor Ben Howe.
Howe’s comment came a day after Wilson appeared on ABC News, his first media interview. During the interview with ABC’s George Stephenopoulos, Wilson said that there was nothing he could have done to prevent the fatal shooting from taking place.
The grand jury’s decision not to indict Wilson sparked days of riots and demonstrations in Ferguson, Missouri, where Brown was killed, and cities across the country. The protestors, demanding justice, have criticized the way the way police collected evidence at the scene of Brown’s death and the way the prosecutor pursued the case against Wilson.
Howe’s comment elicited a backlash on Twitter:
