Male TV Anchor Wore Same Suit for a Year to Make Point About Sexist Double-Standards

It’s been a year since Karl Stefanovic, the anchor of Australia's Today Show, changed the suit he wears on air, but apparently, not a single viewer noticed. It’s a fact that proved Stefanovic’s hypothesis that sexism is at work in the criticisms his female co-anchor receives about her clothing and hair.

Stefanovic decided to test his hunch after co-anchor Lisa Wilkinson reported on the rude and unsolicited remarks on her outfits she gets from viewers. (One email offered this helpful tip: "Today's outfit is particularly jarring and awful. Get some style.") For nearly 12 months, Stefanovic has worn the same navy Burberry suit, only switching up his shirt and tie each day. (There were a handful of days where “circumstance” required he change his jacket.) Stefanovic compared the silence his unchanging look receives to the critiques women anchors endure in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald:

"No one has noticed; no one gives a shit. But women, they wear the wrong color and they get pulled up. They say the wrong thing and there's thousands of tweets written about them. I'm judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humour—on how I do my job, basically. Whereas women are quite often judged on what they're wearing or how their hair is."

For the record, the suit’s now on sale on eBay if you’d like to buy it. The listing describes it as “a little bit stanky.”

Video of every single outfit Stefanovic wore on air over the last year is below:
