Could There Be a New America's Dumbest Congressman? Meet Wisconsin's Glenn Grothman

Mother Jones offers up a short bio of likely new House Republican Glenn Grothman, the notorious Wisconsin state senator who won the Republican primary and now looks to be a shoo-in in the hard-right 6th district. Think Michele Bachmann without the charm, or Steve King without Steve King's kind and gentle demeanor. Anyway, he is a terrible person and that a bunch of people in one Wisconsin district are actually willing to vote to send this specimen of underripe humanity off to govern us all makes a good case for quarantine.
In January, Grothman proposed rolling back a Wisconsin law requiring employers to give workers at least one day of rest per week. He told the Huffington Post the existing state law was "a little goofy" and his proposal was about "freedom." "Right now in Wisconsin, you're not supposed to work seven days in a row, which is a little ridiculous because all sorts of people want to work seven days a week," he said.
I remember back when people were incensed at the notion of people working seven days a week because it wasn't Christian to do that. Now it's communism if employers aren't allowed to make them do it.
In 2010, Grothman, who believes that homosexuality is a choice, proposed banning Wisconsin public school teachers from mentioning homosexuality in sex education classes because some teachers had an "agenda" to turn kids gay.
In my old school we weren't allowed to talk about argon because parents were afraid teachers would try to turn us into a noble gas. (We lost three kids the previous year when they decided to become glowing beer signs hanging in the local bar's front window. Come back to us, Pabst, we still miss you.)
"[W]e have is the secretary of state going to Africa and educating Ugandans or saying he is going to send American scientists to Uganda to explain how normal homosexuality is. Think about that. What must God think of our country?"
Glenn Grothman thinks about gay people more than anyone else you've ever known. And yes, he's down with Ugandan efforts to criminalize homosexuality. Of course he is.
A December 2012 press release issued by Grothman's state senate office asked, "Why Must We Still Hear About Kwanzaa?" In it, Grothman claimed that Kwanzaa is a phony holiday promoted by "white left-wingers who try to shove this down black people's throats in an effort to divide Americans."
All right, here's what we'll do. We're going to put Glenn Grothman here on the Louie Gohmert America's Dumbest Congressman watch list. There's still a chance that he might fall down a well between now and November, but if he does make it into Congress it looks like Louie Gohmert may have a genuine challenger.
