Video: Obama Is Offered a Hit of Weed in Denver and Laughs

The president is in Denver, Colorado today, July 9, where weed is state-legal and a-plenty. Despite the fact that the federal government still considers cannabis consumption, possession and cultivation criminal offenses, Coloradans weren’t exactly trying to hide their pot use from the commander in chief.

In an Instagram video added by a user called manton89, a man (presumably the owner of the Instagram account) offers Obama a hit of pot.

“Do you wanna hit this?” he is heard saying. Obama’s response? Laughter.

Manton89 tagged the video: “Asked him if he wanted a hit of pot…he laughed! #legalizeit #iinhaled #mrGQ.”

In the US hundreds of thousands of people continue to be arrested and imprisoned for the mere possession and/or consumption of pot due to drug policies that target minorities. If the president’s reaction to this so-called crime is to laugh, perhaps its time he granted clemency to all the people serving time for this obviously innocuous act that the president apparently finds lightly amusing.
