WATCH: Jon Stewart Chides 'Redskins' Owner for His Refusal to Get With the Times

Jon Stewart opened a segment somewhat blandly entitled "Thursday Night Law" by saying that every once in a while a decision comes down that makes you say, 'whaaa, I thought that happened a while ago,' like when Mississippi finally got around to the amedment banning slavery . . . last year."

He was referring of course to the Patent Office's recent decision calling the name "Redskins" a racial slur, and making it a non-exclusive trademark for the football franchise that still uses it. (This opens the floodgates to a whole lot of other products carrying the derogatory name, like "Redskins analgesic butt creams," Stewart pointed out.)

For any reasonable person, that ruling should pretty much seal the deal. But not for the Washington D.C.'s football team owner, Daniel Snyder, who says he will appeal the ruling, citing tradition. "His argument," said Stewart, "is that you can't just come in here and take our ancestral property." (Get it? Nudge nudge.)

The comedian has more to say on what really should be a settled fight, but a stubborn, white, tin-eared wealthy man refuses to accept.
