Hard Choice: Did Hillary Leave Bill Out of Loop on Historic bin Laden Raid?
The National Enquirer reports that Hillary Clinton will reveal she left her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in the dark in the days before U.S. Navy Seals raided the Pakistan compound that housed Osama bin Laden.
In her soon to be published memoir, “Hard Choices,” the former First Lady/Senator/Secretary of State discloses that she felt the mission was so critical that she kept it a secret from everyone outside a small group within the administration, including family, according to leaked excerpts quoted by the Enquirer.
The weekly supermarket tabloid — which claims to have obtained an advanced copy Hillary Clinton’s book — quotes her as saying that her husband was not aware of the operation until President Barack Obama contacted him shortly after bin Laden was killed by the Seals:
“I took that seriously, as President Obama found out,” Clinton reportedly wrote. “When he reached Bill, he began, ‘I assume Hillary’s already told you…’ Bill had no idea what he was talking about. They told me not to tell anyone, so I didn’t tell anyone."
As a courtesy, Obama called the four living ex-presidents to inform them of the news before it broke in the media.
Hillary Clinton continues:
“Bill later joked with me, ‘No one will ever doubt you can keep a secret!”
The Washington Post, in yesterday's edition, said that the bin Laden raid will be a central theme to “Hard Choices.” The paper speculates that it has “the potential to become one of the most politically rewarding decisions of her tenure” as Secretary of State.
The book reveals that Clinton didn’t expect to be part of President Obama’s cabinet, but during her tenure as the head of the State Department she saw Obama proving some of the strongest leadership she had ever seen in her career in public service, according to an advance excerpt from the book released on Tuesday.
Clinton and Obama, bitter rivals for 2008 presidential nomination of the Democratic Party, also became friends during her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat, Clinton reveals in the book.
“Hard Choices” will hit bookstore shelves on June 10.
