Pat Sajak Mocked on Twitter for Calling Those Concerned With Climate Change 'Unpatriotic Racists.'
Hours after “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak called people concerned with climate change "unpatriotic racists," he was mocked relentlessly on Twitter, becoming the top trending topic on the social media service. Sajak tweeted:
I now believe global warming alarmists are unpatriotic racists knowingly misleading for their own ends. Good night.— Pat Sajak (@patsajak) May 20, 2014
Soon after Sajak's tweet (above), hundreds of users ridiculed his statement, beginning with noted American climatologist and geophysicist, Michael E. Mann.
Hey @PatSajak, this aint the Wheel of Fortune. If we lose this game, it isn't just one person's misfortune. All humanity pays the price.— Michael E. Mann (@MichaelEMann) May 20, 2014
Soon after other Tweeters began to pile it on. For example:
I think @patsajak has been spending too much time under those hot stage lights.— jam (@jamileh) May 20, 2014
Apparently when he's not entertaining the trailer park crowd, @patsajak is a climatologist. buy a vowel for this, Pat: F_ck Off— Greytdog (@Greytdog) May 20, 2014
Sajak later went into damage-control mode and tried to make light of his statement, cryptically suggesting that he just enjoyed stirring the pot. But it was too late, the meme had taken hold. Soon, Twitter users were using Wheel of Fortune's letter board to taunt the game show host.
Sajak is a former television weatherman, but he is not a meteorologist.
