Marijuana History in the Making: First Ever Pot Commercial on Mainstream Network TV [Watch]
“Yo, you want sushi? I got sushi,” says an apparently underground street dealer to the camera. So opens the beginning of a one minute commercial for medical marijuana, which began airing on New Jersey’s major television stations—including CNN, Fox, A&E, Comedy Central, the History Channel and Food Network—on March 3.
“You wouldn’t buy your sushi from this guy, so why would you buy your marijuana from him?” a voiceover says, interrupting the ‘sushi dealer.’
The ad is sponsored by a company called Marijuana Doctors, which connects patients to doctors for medical marijuana recommendations. It uses the dubious ‘sushi dealer’ character to make a point about the way many medical marijuana patients in the state are forced to get their state-legal medicine through less-than-legal avenues.
While medical marijuana is legal in New Jersey, legal access is strictly limited. As a result, even severely-ill, card carrying medical patients with illnesses like cancer have been arrested for marijuana possession in the state in recent months for possessing marijuana not acquired through state-legal dispensaries.
Marijuana Doctors claims theirs is the first ever pro-marijuana ad to air on major network TV stations. Watch the commercial below:
