Yet Another Child Has Lunch Tossed Out Over an Unpaid Balance
A mother from New Jersey is outraged after the school her son attends threw out his school lunch over an unpaid balance, just days after a similar case in Utah sparked anger.
The mother, Amy Ross, says, “this to me is a form of bullying,” according to NBC News.
Ross says the school has thrown out the lunch of her ten-year-old, Jake, several times, including this month. Last year, Ross called the principal of the school to complain, who apologized. But it happened again.
The superintendent of the Galloway Township Public Schools in New Jersey said it’s school policy to replace a hot lunch with a cheese sandwich if the account is not paid in full.
Asked by a reporter whether it was okay to take hot lunches from students in certain circumstances, the superintendent, Annette Giaquinto, said: “ I believe there are certain times when I think you need to take certain measures and again, I know that sounds cold...is it a practice I love? No.”
The New Jersey case is making headlines shortly after a similar case in Utah sparked national attention. Last week, a Utah school district apologized after dozens of lunches were thrown out over not having enough money.
