Watch: Glenn Greenwald Slams Obama's War on Whistleblowers

The Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald harshly slammed the Obama administration on Fox News this morning. Greenwald said that the administration was trying to make an example of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and that it was part of President Obama’s crackdown on whistleblowers.

Fox and Friends host Eric Bolling brought up Snowden’s recent letter that said the U.S. is “afraid of an informed, angry public demanding the constitutional government it was promised,” and asked whether bringing Snowden into U.S. courts would look bad for the administration.

As Raw Story notes, Greenwald responded by saying: “I think what the Obama administration wants and has been trying to establish for almost five years now with the unprecedented war on whistleblowers that it is waging is to make it so that everybody is petrified of coming forward with information about what our political officials are doing in the dark that is deceitful, illegal or corrupt.”

Greenwald added that the U.S. is “making an extremely negative example out of him to intimidate future whistleblowers from coming forward because they’ll think they’re going to end up like him.” Snowden is the eighth person to be charged by the Obama administration’s Justice Department under the Espionage Act--the highest number from any administration.

Greenwald also said that more disclosures about the National Security Agency were coming from him. “There are vast programs of both domestic and international spying that the world will be shocked to learn about that the NSA is engaged in with no democratic accountability,” the columnist said.
