NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’s Home
On Thursday, investigators released new documents regarding their house search of Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza. The reports revealed some troubling findings, including an National Rifle Association certificate and its guide to the basics of pistol shooting. The NRA did not respond to NBC News after they requested a comment earlier. But the news organization recently tweeted: “NRA says ‘no record’ of relationship with Newtown shooter Adam Lanza or his mother...”
Some other alarming findings:
Arsenal of weapons — Police found 1,600 rounds of ammunition in Lanza’s house as well as an assortment of weapons. They found a 12-gauge shotgun in his car and rifles, knives and even Samurai swords in his house. In the Newtown shooting, Lanza used a Bushmaster XM15-E2S semiautomatic rifle with several 30-round magazines while also carrying two semiautomatic handguns. Reports revealed that the Sandy Hook massacre occurred in less than five minutes, and that Lanza fired 155 bullets in that amount of time.
Mother’s approval — Besides owning such an immense amount and variety of weapons, Adam’s mother Nancy appears to have promoted gun use. According to CNN, police found a holiday card in the Lanza home that contained a check 'made out to Adam Lanza for the purchase of a C183 (firearm), authored by Nancy Lanza.’
Article about previous school shooting — According to NBC News, police also found a New York Times article about a Northern Illinois University school shooting in 2008. Last week, The New York Daily News revealed that Lanza compiled a spreadsheet of past mass murders
Gory photos — Three photographs of a dead person covered with plastic and blood were also found in Lanza’s home. Though there were no reported findings of violent video games, an unnamed source in the past claimed that Lanza played “Call of Duty” and other violent video games.
It is notable that all of the weapons found in the Lanza house, as well as the including the military-style rifle Adam Lanza used in the shooting, were obtained legally by his mother. And clearly, gun use was normalized in his household — as evidenced by the NRA pamphlet and certificate.
According to the New York Times, lawmakers hope to introduce a gun control bill next week.
